Al previously served as a Committee Person in Ward 48 Division 18 where, as. a volunteer local political representative for the Philadelphia Democratic Party, he registered voters, endorsed candidates, and served as the “eyes and ears” for his neighbors, connecting voters with the Democratic party and elected officials. (The Philadelphia Democratic Party is the official County party under the Pennsylvania Democratic Party and the Democratic National Committee). In 2010, he he ran to represent our area on the Pennsylvania Democratic State Committee, the governing body of the Pennsylvania Democratic Party, that is charged with steering the direction of our party and organizing for Democrats across the ballot.

In the past, Al was elected by his neighbors to serve as a civil Election Officer (PA’s name for a poll worker). He was a Judge of Elections for the Philadelphia County Elections Board in Ward 48 Division 18, where he supervised the voting precinct, ensuring things ran smoothly on Election Day and saw that ballots and results were securely returned to the county office at the end of each voting day.

Al Littlepage was elected unanimously as Ward Leader by the Ward 48 Committee People in a special election called on December 12th, 2025. He and the Committee People are now working to make sure our neighbors in Ward 48 will be ready to vote!

The Ward 48 Committee People gathered for a special Ward Leader election on December 12th, 2025, upon the resignation of former Ward Leader Anton Moore (2022-2026). Moore accepted a position with the city of Philadelphia effective November 24th, 2025, that prohibited Ward service. Philadelphia Democratic Party rules required a special election be held within 30 days.

Al asks that we always remember these words spoken by Civil Rights Icon and Congressman John Lewis:
