Tuesday, May 19, 2026 is the next Election!
In this spring Primary Election, the political parties choose their nominee to compete head-to-head in the fall General Election against nominees in other parties (e.g., Republican, Working Families Party, Green, etc.).
- Last day to register to vote for the May Primary: May 4, 2026.
- Last day to request a mail-in or absentee ballot: May 12, 2026
- Do not use US Mail to request or return voter materials. New postal ‘cancellation rules’ impact election materials. Go in-person to our local election satellite office at 1835 S. Broad, near Mifflin (and use the official ballot drop box out front).
YOUR vote on May 19th elects the:
- Democratic Candidates for Pennsylvania Governor and Lt. Governor
- Democratic Candidate for US Congressional District #3 (serving us in Washington)
- Democratic Candidate for PA State Senator District #8 (serving in Harrisburg)
- Democratic Candidates for PA State Representative in House Districts #185 & #186
- Two neighborhood Democratic Committee People serving you here in Ward 48
- Two local Democratic neighbors serving you in the state PA Democratic Party (which steers the direction of the Democratic party and organizes for Democrats across the ballot).

B) It is always good practice to re-verify that you are registered to vote!
C) Verify your party affiliation for a (Spring) Primary Election. In Pennsylvania. You may vote in a primary only for candidates running in the party in which you are registered.

*Not everyone can Vote in the PA Primary! As a “closed primary” state, voting is limited to only members of the major parties (Dem., Rep., and Green). Third-party, Independent, & Unaffiliated voters are excluded from voting and Primary voters can vote only for candidates in the same party for which they are registered. Non-party voters can re-register as D to have a say in spring Primary elections. Note: This is voter suppression. In Philly there are more unaffiliated/other voters than registered Republicans! Today, the majority of Americans are NOT registered D or R but are instead independent, unaffiliated, or third party. The voices of these voters are suppressed in PA, and it is taxation without full representation. Democratic leaders in Harrisburg have been battling against Republican voting restrictions for more than 2 decades — but disenfranchising voters is very real in this swing-state in the effort to control the vote. Strategically register to vote when you live in Pennsylvania!

F) How do I get a mail-in or absentee ballot?

Safest: Return your mail-in-ballot using an official ballot box like this one (above) out front of the Satellite Election Office at 1835 S. Broad, outside City Hall (S. Broad entrance), or at Smith Playground (at the corner of Snyder and 24th). Do not use United States mail (USPS) if there are less than 10 days to the registration or election deadline. It is advised to not use blue postal boxes on the street corners — hand your voting material directly to your mail carrier or take it to a post office and put it in an INSIDE mail box.

H) KNOW THE FACTS: With Only a Few Exceptions YOU MAY REGISTER and VOTE!
If you are ELIGIBLE (see below) and you meet these qualifications, you may REGISTER and VOTE: 1) you have been a US citizen for at least one month before the next election; 2) you have lived in Pennsylvania and in your election district for at least 30 days before the next election; 3) you will be at least 18 years of age on the day of the next election. Your Vote is Your Voice!
