Open Wards Philadelphia is citywide movement to strengthen democracy and transparency within Philadelphia’s political parties. In 2018, Ward 48 voted as an Open Ward. The majority of wards in Philadelphia are closed wards, but there is a strong and growing interest in moving towards a more transparent, accessible and democratic ward system. The Open Wards Project is an effort by both newly elected and veteran committee people, and some of the ward leaders they helped elect, to create a better ward system across Philadelphia.

WARDS THAT WORK Neighbors organizing with neighbors to make our communities safer, more affordable, and vibrant. The ward is the most basic level of local government—connecting our blocks to citywide politics.  If our ward leadership is not uplifting politics in the interest of diverse working class communities, then a piece of our democratic process is broken. Our political system too often serves the corporations and developers who profit at our expense—and many wards remain complacent toward this corrupt status quo that is crushing the working class. We’re fighting for wards that work for all of us.https://www.wardsthatwork.com/
