Ward Leader Anton Moore

I want us to make the 48th a POWER Ward! — Anton Moore, upon election as Ward Leader.

In June 2018, at the 48th Ward ‘Reorganization Meeting’, Mr. Anton Moore was nominated and elected overwhelmingly by the ward’s Committee People to a four-year term as Ward Leader.

The Role of the Philadelphia Ward Leader…

Ward leader responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Staffing polling places in each division with a full slate of Board of Elections officials (the people who run your polling place)
  • Recruiting committee people for all open seats
  • Endorsing candidates and running a get-out-the-vote (GOTV) program
  • Raising funds—often, but not exclusively, from candidates running for office
  • The ward leaders from the 66 geopolitical jurisdictions in the city of Philadelphia also form the Democratic party’s city committee, and they elect its chair. The chair of the Democratic City Committee is currently Congressman Robert A. Brady.
  • When a current elected official leaves office in the middle of the term, the parties’ nominees for office are nominated by the Democratic City Committee (comprised of the city’s ward leaders), rather than by voters in open and competitive primaries.
